About 8 years ago I had an hourly job and I was contractor… I would work too fast and run out of things to do and have to go home early. My boss taught me to slow down so I would always have work to do and get a bigger paycheck

One day she was not at work, so I got her cushy aeron chair and decided to kill some time in my own creative way.

These were all made w/out photoshop using nothing more than a flatbed scanner looking down and moving my head as the moving part of the scanner went on by.

I used to get $15/hr as a graphic designer there, so I am guessing I made about $5 to make these. I had these filed away and I am glad I kept them. You can see the whole set at Flickr. Now I am sharing them with the world. What do you think of them? What do you do to kill time at the job you hate?

These are the results: http://twitter.com/wertrose … just kidding, that was still in my clipboard.

I actually read these before I sent them and wrote the descriptions myself. I have not done link building for a while so it was a really good refresher course for me. Also rereading Bretts 26 steps was a good idea. He was pretty solid on those fundamentals. Much of the shit I have done over the last few years was short lived and destructive… normal high risk/high return stuff.

It seems like Microsoft sends me 1-2 of these AdCenter packets a week. I have saved them for a while and let them stack up on my kitchen table. I am doing some cleaning up so here is a bunch of free advertising coupons and codes for AdCenter.

I am not how many times this will work, or which ones are valid but these will get you between $50 and $200 in free advertising on AdCenter. If you do not know AdCenter is Microsoft's pay per click advertising. It is a great value, and sends the cleanest traffic of any. The volume is pretty low compared to Google (2-5% maybe), but it converts like a MUTHA.

Here are the Microsoft AdCenter Coupon Codes:

Hopefully they will work for you and you can test out the system and make some sweet $$$ and continue to spend on AdCenter. Leave comment if you can or cannot get any of them to work.

My friend pointed me in the direction of a new bar in China that allows the customers to smash glasses and beat up the staff. We both had some really bad days this week and think it would be the ideal solution to that problem.

The bar is called the Rising Sun Anger Release Bar and is located in Nanjing China.

The Rising Sun Anger Release Bar in Nanjing lets customers smash glasses, rant and even hit specially trained workers, state media reported.

The bar employs 20 men who have been given protective gear and physical training to prepare them for the job.

Clients can ask the men to dress as the character they wish to attack.

The bar charges from 50 yuan ($6.25) to 300 yuan for the pleasure.

Brilliant.

Anyone who knows me , may know that I am a complete excel dork. I love Microsoft Excel…and recently I was able to get my hands on the new "excel 12"Â in the office beta package.

You can get your own copy of all the new Microsoft office products right here.

Here is a quick run down of the programs:

Microsoft Word: still pretyt much the same, but with a new interface

Microsoft Excel 12: TITS, this program is awesome. first off they removed the limit of 65,000 lines so now you can go crazy building keyword upload sheets or working with log files. They changed the way sorting is done and you can sort on any and every variable found in a column…and in every column, which is awesome. They made removing duplicates even easier (one click), lots of features are even easier to find. It is great. I cannot wait until the full release comes out, but from now on I am only using Office 2007.

Outlook 2007: wow this is a great program, they now have assignable tags, so you can have one color for one thing…you also have the ability to choose a followup date and add numerous flags to an email. The interface does not feel as heavy and it even includes searching… this is another great product enhancement.

Powerpoint and Access – I never use either.

OneNote – wow this is a sweet little program. Well not really that little, it probably takes a gig of space (thanks microsoft). It is awesome though. It allows you to keep an online notebook, with various tabs or sections, and within those sections or tabs you can have pages and sub pages…and even password protect them. It is pretty neat, and supports crazy formating and even tablet/handwriting. I could see this very helpful for staying organized, but I think it could be dangerous if you do not keep proper backups. It also allows you to sync up with a handheld so you can take notes on the road which would also be great.

All in all you cannot go wrong with the free microsoft office 2007 beta. If you use excel all the time I would get the upgrade immediatly. Again the office beta can be found here.

The archive should be up shortly and can be found here.

We pretty much shot the shit on the big three in the PPC industry: Google Adwords , Yahoo Search Marketing aka Overture, and MSN AdCenter.
I am not sure how I did , but I do know that I had 2 sweet brain farts on the air…so that should be archived for the world to hear. Give it a listen and let me know what you think. Oh and by the way, the reason I spelled out the dottedonline domain is because so far of the 10 people I have told about it, 2 think it is dottedline… and I never get their emails. I also was able to plug pay per click / ppc blog as well. Thanks Greg.

A month or so back I started a company with a buddy called DottedOnline, LLC. We are trying our best to create high quality websites. Our first site is called Flower Finder.net and is a local florist directory.

Much like a yellow pages but with more focus on a single topic… geo-vertical directories, compare these two:
Flower Finder – Chicago Florists
Super Pages – Chicago Florist

Which would you rather use? Our goal is to provide valuable feedback on the things that matter to the end user. Initially on this site it is just easy to navigate and find listings of local florists, and people have the ability to leave either positive or negative feedback on florists, on a variaty of ranking criteria.

We are also going to be adding valuabe content to people looking for flower information, much like florist.com, ftd.com or aboutflowers.com
In addition to this we have a few consulting gigs and will continue to keep moving forward with our sites. Let me know what you think about Flower Finder.

I got the idea from jimbo over at LBE. I am now using this as a reminder to myself if my firefox ever dies on me and I need to re-install them.

searchstatus 1.15 – displays pagerank and alexa ranking, also allows nofollow links to be easily highlighted.

roboform – fills in forms/stores passwords (paid). I could not live with out this program.

gmail manager – allows you to manage multiple gmail accounts and shows their status

split link – supposedly shows you where a redirect link actually redirects you. Liek the poor mans version of HTTP Watch used for IE.

IE Tab - allows you to open IE windows in firefox, good for adcenter

Duplicate tab - allows you to duplicate the current tab to a new tab or window and keeps the history

colorful tabs – ads som ecolor to multiple tabs

tabbrowser preferences – control over tab usage

bugmenot – fills some registration things with accounts other peopel created, good for newspaper sites

user agent switcher – lets you change user agents, good for finding out if someone is using bot cloaking on a website

del.icio.us – portable bookmarking

sage – rss reader

ie view – launches the site in an IE browser

web developer – allows you to turn of css /java etc

pearl crescent page saver – allows you to screen capture the entire webpage (including things you have to scroll down to) as a png file. this is pretty much an awesome plugin, it allows you the same features of a paid screen capture program…it is great for documenting changes to a website for a client or designer. Another way to describe it would be full page print screen.

So I have been listening to archives of SEO Rockstars and hearing oilman and webguerrilla talk about how the site link condom (linkcondom.com) is somehow the ultimate example of the google sandbox…so I look at the site and do some werty style diagnostics (look at the page)… and something kind of pops out at me… no mention of the phrase "link condom" at all on the page…it is on there once and done as one word linkcondom… so they are depending on nothing but link weight to rank number one for the phrase.

Did I miss something or would that be a simple enough solution to the problem? What it seems like they would be attempting is a google bomb of the phrase link condom, w/out having the phrase on it…
My advice, maybe add link condom to the title and somewhere on the page and see if that solves the problem? WTF?
