Vonage Sucks a Review of Vonage VOIP

While I am on the subject of fucking, I would like to nominate Vonage for FUCKING SUCKING!

I got Vonage while I was up in Canada so I had an easy/affordable way for friends and family in the USA to call me and for me to call them. It worked pretty decently for that task but since I have returned to the USA it has occurred to me just about every time that I have used my phone via Vonage that is an overpriced piece of shit service. While I say it is shit, it does have a few redeaming qualities about it:

Call forwarding/SimuRing: this service works well, and does not depend on their network to fwd calls, so it is just fine to use.

Voicemail: they have pretty decent voicemail, but the part about it that is “pure tits” is the feature that allows you to email the voicemail to the email address of your choice. This is fucking awesome and allows you to easily forward voicemail to friends, family or coworkers. It is also great for documenting employees that call you while they are high.

Numerous local numbers/800 numbers: For just $4.95 a month you can add either a local number (for your callers) in like 8 countries in the world or 100’s of cities in the USA. It is pretty awesome. If I wanted I could set up a number in the UK so people could call me up using a non long distance call in the UK. I do not have anyone calling me from the UK so this is JUST AN EXAMPLE.

Portability: I could get the fuck out of the USA for 6 months and bring my Vonage router, and a phone to anywhere with a high speed connection and still run my business like I was in the USA. This is pretty awesome.

Now that I spoke of the praises, I will start to talk shit about the things about Vonage that suck:

Gay Ass Comercials: Seriously they push this shit way too much and Vonage is backfill on every website with CPA advertising. I can make $100 if I can convince one sucker to sign up for their service. I like money.

Voice Quality: If I used a poor quality cell phone, amplified it, put the speaker in my ass, and then a microphone in my mouth I would still have better quality then what people on the receiving end of the call would experience. I would have to add poor wiring and cutting out to the list to come close to the terrible quality one might hear if they talked to someone with Vonage. On the Vonage side of the call things sound fine and you never know how poor the quality is for the other person until you experience it for yourself.

Price: They say save tons of money, and you might if you are calling between the US and Canada 24 hrs a day, but most telecom companies now offer unlimited domestic long distance plans for like $20 a month. Also you need to have a pretty hefty connection to make Vonage sound less like shit. For me it was a cable modem VS a dsl. One would sound like ass, one would sound like shit. I choose the ass.

Many of the above features are available over skype… so I would recommend that to anyone who always has a computer on. The last piece of information is that it seems like it is next to impossible to tie your remote distant # or 1800 number back into your local land line when you want to switch away from Vonage… so for me, I am kinda fucked and will be stuck paying for vonage to use my 800 # and Chicago number strictly for forwarding. LAMERZZZ

Anyone else have an opinion on Vonage?

You are the moron reading it. Also I would love to suck a teat, if you are offering.

3 Mildred 01.31.07 at 8:44 pm

I totally agree with you about suck-ass Vonage! My husband switched to it a few months ago and it’s truly a horse-shit system. I’m filing for divorce if he doesn’t get rid of it soon!

4 Al 02.16.07 at 7:54 pm

Vonage sucks major ass! EVEN with a cable modem!! Don’t get it, you’ll regret it. Yeah it’s cheap, lot’s of features but the sound quality is shit half the time. My wife fucken hates it, now I have to suck back up to Bell.

5 AMEN 03.21.07 at 2:18 pm

I couldn’t agree more. EVERYONE BE WARNED–DO NOT SIGN UP FOR VONAGE. You are signing up for headaches. The call quality is extremely poor, your calls get dropped, and customer service is a joke. IT IS NOT WORTH IT. The features for the price sound great, but I’d rather pay 10x the price for a phone that works right.

6 Paul H 04.12.07 at 8:35 pm

I LOVE VONAGE. I have 9 lines for my business running on DSL, the occasional rest on the router, and a slight drop in call quality sure, but hey, the features and the savings are tremendous..

I agree VONAGE SUCKS. Horrible quality even with high speed. I tried this for about 6 months, and only because it was cheap and since i work in retail and sell their product i got an additional discount, but it wasnt even worth it. Its shit, and once they have that credit card number they dont give a damn! And try cancelling the service? prepare yourself for hours of being transferred and waiting 40 mins to an hour for someone to answer your call. And then as your waiting on the last transfer, the friggen service cuts out and drops the call, and they expect me to call back? i dont think so, i expected that it would be cancelled or they would call me back, but no… they just keep charging me, and now, my account is in grace period so i prepared myself for another few hours of hell trying to cancel it, now on my new home phone. They tell me that i have to pay the full balance of $80 before they can actually cancel it. Its a bunch of bullshit, i will never go back, and i will never sell this to a customer because i dont lie to my customers and vonage is shit~!

8 Vonage Holdings 10.21.07 at 9:22 pm

No. You suck. Vonage is awesome and all-powerful.

9 Bob H 11.17.07 at 11:43 am

VONAGE sucks! We have only had Vonage for a week, and we are already switching back. (If we can even get switched back to AT&T.) If they don’t switch us back within ten days, we are going to start bothering the FCC about it. It worked for us when we had trouble with Verison and Sprint.

VONAGE IS THE BEST YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT!! VONAGE ROCKS!!!!

11 mr truth 11.28.07 at 10:56 pm

ok boys and girls… ill make this short… im a vonage agent… yes im on the phone when u cry over shit… but im not here to insult u guys, just to give you the truth… so, lets do this right… if you have any doubts about this just write to — [email protected] — of course im not gonna give you any information about me… so u can call me mr. truth, im just here to tell you how shit works here… im not defending the company, im not defending you… just telling the truth… wanna know why?? vonage steals money (nothing new) but i work for that bad company, and i cant stay just like that, its just a way to feel better… ok, first thing first… if you are gonna write to that email then insult the company, any personal insult will not make me feel bad or make me cry… so they will just not be answered… two, im not from the US, im southamerican, and i hope that ur not gonna start gettin xenofobic… now lets get straight to business

since i hate xenofobic acts ill start from there… when u call and start with… “are u in america??” well, yes i am, dont take over the continent… there’s a lot of countries there with u, thats as xenofobic as ill get… dont ask if im in the phillipines, or india… my english is very decent and ive studied it for over 12 years… an “american” agent wont help u more than me, they have the same tools… ok lets keep going… most of you got screwed over a number port from another company right?? well… when the number is not available is not that someone took it away from u… its just not available for the company… thats why on the vonage website there’s a small thing that proves if ur number is portable… if u cancel the service with the other company while the number is being ported… dont cry cuz it got canceled… its pretty obvious… and yes if u have no device and ur number is being ported, u wont be able to use it… it sucks i know, but its how it works… second… supervisors and managers… they dont give a shit about whats going on with u and the manager will never come to talk to u… supervisors have other things to do… we can give u credits and months for free if u want to… but supervisors and managers dont have special powers (dont be a baby, we wont get fired cuz ur mad)… lets go to case number three… pretty much of what ur being charged for is in the terms of service, read them, yes, they’re shit but once u sign up for the service it means that u accept them… total basics of a contract… four… if you dont get me ur supervisor, i will call my lawyer/the fbi/the cops/sue ur ass… uuuuuu a lawyer… wait a second… i think i just shit my pants… ive got customers calling their lawyers thousand of times and im not in jail, vonage protects us… fbi cant do shit… nor the cops… the only one that could do something is jack bauer (yes from 24), he’s pretty cool and solves shit cuz he’s smart… but! jack is not real, the actor is not american… he’s british so… not gonna happen… i think thats pretty much it… for now though, when i remember more cases ill come up with them… i hope this help… see u soon boys and girls

12 Vonage Rep 12.01.07 at 1:37 pm

Hey guys and gals!!!I agree with my co-worker my friend.Im another vonage rep.U need to understnd how things work before u go and play with Shit! When u wanted to keep ur existing phone number with Vonage if it is a DSL phone line-u should know that once u tranfer ur number to vonage ur phone service and internet service will not work.Cause vonage works on Internet protocals. So u have to find another Internet service provider or signup for “Dry loop connection” with ur existing DSL provider (Phone and internetprovider)company.

When it comes to Voice Quality:
It all depends on the Internet Connection Quality(Band width)U get from ISP.

13 Mr.America 12.04.07 at 12:58 am

Ok ok ok…u crying asses!!!I agree with u guys but(real butt)If u guys know how it works u will enjoy the service to the core by paying nutts(vonage dont take nutts to pay service)!!!

so u might have to read and understand how things work!!If u want to save money u have to strugle lill bit!!!what u say??

Its not easy I understand…I will tell u in brief…High speed internet of atleast 300 Kbps and good cordless phone set will make it easy.

Dont expect too much ..u can have a decent phone service if u have above mentioned shit in ur home.

I am running short of time now..catch u babies!!

14 I hate Vonage 12.15.07 at 1:57 am

Vonage is the worst service I have used in years. The sound quality is poor. The Voic email often malfucntions. Customer service is non existent. You would be a fool to use Vonage.

15 amber 03.17.08 at 6:20 pm

Vonage sucks ASS – plain and simple.

16 Kronos 03.18.08 at 2:44 pm

If you can’t reason with vonage, what one must do is procure one brick and find the nearest office. Windows are expensive gentlemen.

Vonage blows. My experience is the same as above, poor quality lines cancelled account and they continue to bill me four months after cancellation all for a service I cancelled within one month. If any one ever ask me about this service I let them know how crappy they are. No company that I have ever cancelled on the phone twice has ever continued to bill me.

Heres to the future, where Vonage is out of business.

18 Bill L. Smith 03.27.08 at 10:17 am

It doesn’t surprise me that there are some Vonage employees looking at this site and making snide remarks as mentioned above. Vonage doesn’t care if you are mad. You can be mad all you want. They already have your credit card and your signature on the contract. They can extort you for the maximum amount each month. This is stealing the legal way. Vonage has the same business model as AOL. You as a customer might as well bend over and take it in the ass each month for crappy customer service and choppy static phone lines. You definitely get DONOT get what you pay for when it comes to Vonage

19 The Vonage Tech Agent 03.27.08 at 7:28 pm

I work for Vonage as a Technical support agent….. Yes vonage sucks ass… The only good thing about vonage is the really cheap international calling plans. Other than that it is junk. Though if you have Vonage a need technical support we are now in the US. Though the chances of you actually talking with some one in the US is pretty slim. 🙂

20 Sherrie 03.28.08 at 6:58 pm

Okay, here is the deal. You cannot threaten this company, but you can quit giving them your $$$$$$$$$$$$!!!! That is the only way to really get to them. Tell EVERYONE you know and respond to every blog, call every news channel and let them all know about your experience. Someday, someone will be invited to talk about their experience on Good Morning America or the Today Show and then Vonage will either have to play with the big dogs or get off the porch!!! Good luck to all – this company has absolutel no scruples. Call your bank or credit card company and ALSO be sure to file a report with the Attorney General’s Office, in New Jersey.

Bad doesn’t even begin to describe them. The only good thing is they are leading people “to the waters of VOIP,” only to have these people leave to fresher streams. I’ve found a fresh stream i’ve used for some time with no problems at 1/5 the price (for better services).

I used them in a trial, then called to cancel several times but it was never done. They then cancelled it as soon as the period had expired and tried to bill be for cancellation charges. I pushed the issue with the CC payer and BBB, sent letters to their CEO, etc., and they finally gave up. I sent the BBB copies of cancellation tickets from their case system they “couldn’t find” when requested. They are doomed to fail, it’s awesome.

What’s more awesome is this – they just recently send me an offer to re-sign up, though. How wicked cool is that =).

First, I want to say that I was a happy Vonage customer for 4 years. The only reason I chose to leave them was I got a better deal. Leaving is the rub. Even after you leave, Vonage keeps on billing, and they resurrect dead service without notice. This company is technically a good operation, but the customer service and billing has earned this fiasco of a company the right to a dirt nap.

In late September 2005 I ordered VOIP service from another carrier and canceled Vonage. Several calls to Vonage sent me through a succession of people, many who had poor command of English, and eventually led me to wait on hold for the person authorized to end my account. The wait was too long, and I finally believed I closed the account on a Saturday after spending more than 2 hours on the phone with them. When I had allegedly discontinued service, I had been using my new carrier for several weeks and had disconnected the Vonage ATA box. They billed my American Express charge for the entire month, and I paid the entire bill. All was well until the next American Express bill arrived and the usual charge from Vonage was again on the bill again. I had now not used the service for 2 months Long waits finally got assurances form a Vonage employee that the service was discontinued, although no one would agree to credit me for the illegitimate charges. I paid the bill and moved on to more productive endeavors rather than fight over $30. The next month, you guessed it. Vonage billed my American Express again. I phoned American Express, and they contested the charges and since Vonge did not bother to proive they were legitimate, the charge was reversed. Every Month following that time, I had a new charge from Vonage that was contested and reversed. I repeated called Vonage and emailed them to no avail. As a rule no one could find my account when I phoned them or I was told it was an error. This continued for more than 2 years until I finally closed the American Express account. Finally all was quiet after 2 years of trying to get read of the Vonage beast.

Today I received two collection notices from an agency writing on Vonages’ behalf. They say I owe more than $250 for Vonage service including charges from last year – more than 2 years after I canceled service.

When I called to inquire about Vonage service I requested I be transferred to an rep in America. The rep begged me to let him help me. 30 mintues after I hung up on him (he was in the Phillipines), he called me a cursed me out. Unbelieveable.

25 novonagezone 07.06.08 at 1:51 pm

I was going to get vonage 2 years ago when I moved and was looking for land line service.

My neighbor decided to switch land line services about that time, and she said it was crappy service!

Now I hear that Vonage is on its last leg!

Glad I never got Vonage!

26 Shady 11.24.08 at 11:27 am

We have a credit on our account for $184, due to a Vonage mistake. I’ve been trying for a MONTH to get our refund put into our account, but keep getting the run around. They are complete LIARS and will tell you anything to get you off of the phone and try to pacify you. I’ve contated the so called Executive Response Team, but no answer from them yet. This is the worst company that I’ve ever dealt with in my life! Their customer service is beyond ineffective! All they do in “customer service” is take down your complaint and note your account. Good luck getting a so called “supervisor” as they are morons as well. It’s not customer service, it’s a message service. Apparently they can RIP $222.00 OUT OF YOUR ACCOUNT DUE TO THEIR MISTAKE AND NOT GIVE IT BACK!!!! INCREDIBLE!!
I can’t wait for our phone company to get our # back, so I can cancel this service. Vonage should be put out of business! I emailed the founder and his secretary. Their addresses are:

vonage really sucks, ther phone service is a big joke, it isvery bad, there people are a bunch of idiots, they lie, they are still trying to charge 3 months after we canceled service

30 Brian 04.09.10 at 4:46 am

Ummmmm…… yeah, I have an 18mbit connection with about 45ms lag, and vonage still constantly breaks up. In addition, they said they would find a way to tweak it to work during my trial period, then proceeded to charge me 225$ alltogether for connection fees, disconnect fees, and their “diagnostic work”, which when speaking to a rep, couldn’t find anything that was done despite the 95$ diagnostic charge… They attempted to sue me, hahah, what a joke, thank you JAG… Once I told them I had JAG representation, they dropped their case, refunded all of my money, and sent me a $100 check. I appreciated this, but goes to show they are not legitimate, or they would not have taken such a weenie stance.

31 fu vonagecuntz 04.28.10 at 3:59 pm

33 b-ryan 02.24.11 at 10:07 pm

Vonage is the largest Voip company in the USA. And they will remain that way. You people that think Vonage is dying you are stupid. They still have about 3,000,000 customers. They have excellent everything. All you cry babies can shut up. Read the Terms of service before you sign up. They now have no contracts as well. All of you can suck Vonages big V shaped D***

34 Gerry Cool 01.31.17 at 2:52 pm

Vonage is the worst. The voice quality is better under water, with scuba gear. Then there is the price- nuts! Rinky dink service for ridiculous quality. Then try to cancel. It is easier to eat an antelope running from a Cheetah. I stopped my credit card auto bill, and they were relentless in pursuing the reason why by email, but when I tried to call them (3 times), it was the interminable wait for a representative. Then the first person came directly from India; totally impossible to understand. Once I did get an english speaking person, it was a constant rehash of how great their service is, blah, blah, blah. NEVER AGAIN!
